About Building Health X

Building Health X is an independent building-transparency service for New York City renters, buyers, and owners. We turn scattered official NYC records into a plain-English building report, then connect you with vetted local pros to fix what the data surfaces.

What we do

Enter any NYC address and we compile open DOB and HPD violations, 311 complaints, permits, and building-health signals into a single report, so you understand a building’s record before you move, lease, or buy. Where you need work done, we match you with experienced local professionals across all five boroughs.

Where our data comes from

Every report is built from official city and state records, not user-submitted rumor. Our primary sources include:

For the full list and how each feed is used, see our data sources page.

How we research our guides

Our guides and explainers are written and maintained by the Building Health X editorial team and checked against NYC Housing Preservation & Development (HPD), the Department of Buildings (DOB), DHCR, and New York State housing law. We publish under a team byline rather than inventing individual authors, and we update pages as rules and city data change.

What we are not

Building Health X is not a government agency and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the City of New York. We are an information and matching service. Nothing on this site is legal advice; for your specific situation, consult a tenant attorney or NYC Legal Aid.

How matching works

When you submit a request, your contact details are shared with relevant vetted local pros so they can follow up directly. We never silently filter or drop a submission, and we do not sell your personal data. See our privacy policy for details.
